Overview

For my third and final project in GDS210 for my 5th trimester at SAE, the entire class was involved in working a large VR project complete with three individual mini-games, and smaller seperate groups were created from the larger class to work on the specific mini-games. In my group, we worked on a 3D tower defence style game, in which the player stands on top of a tower in a huge city and tries to throw objects to prevent enemies from climbing up onto the building, in a similar fashion to the movie King Kong. I was tasked with designing several models for the game as well as creating the soundtrack/background music for the game, and texture mapping the models in the model editing program Maya.

Successes

Throughout this project, I feel that I did a good job in completing the tasks that I was assigned by my group. I the models I created work well for the style of the game and my group members were happy with them. All of them had a low poly count and were texture mapped correctly. The musical soundtrack I created was also very simple, took a short amount of time to create, and my group members were happy with it and felt that it suited the game's theme well.

Failures

During this project and throughout this unit, I feel as though I failed to make the best effort I could have made with regards to working with my group and pushing myself to take on more tasks and contribute more than the minimum requirement for the unit. I feel that I could have made more effort to engage with my group, and could have taken on more of the workload and completed it to a better standard. I also encountered issues with communication, as one of the models I created for the mini-game we were working on, was lost during a GitHub revert and I as a a result I had to recreate it from scratch. This was due to me not communicating clearly with my group that I had pushed the model to the project through our source control program GitHub, without saving it elsewhere.

Lessons Learned

During this project, I feel as though I could have done more tasks and made a greater effort to engage with my group and with the project we were working on. I learnt a lot from this unit and project in that common life struggles and laziness was often the cause of my lack of performance in my units, and that I need to focus on my strengths more than my weaknesses. I will greatly improve my performance, marks, attendance, and efforts towards group projects, for future units in this course.
